Tataki zome Pillow - Botanical Print - Natural Dye

This pillow is made with fresh leaves and flowers that were hammered into the cloth. The cloth is a linen. This method is called Tataki zome which means hammer dye in Japanese たたき染め. Many were then fixed in mordants to shift and set the colors. I immersed many of them with natural dyes afterwards. This one is made with sumac and yarrow leaf. The back of each pillow is hand dyed to compliment the front pattern. This one has been dyed with marigold. They are all hand sewn shut and stuffed with a hypoallergenic material called angel hair. The finished size is 10x10 inches
