This will be an exploration in earth and plant based pigment extraction that will give you the necessary techniques to create watercolor, oil, egg tempera, paints as well as creating inks that can be translated into your artistic practice.
We will be using local harvested plants and minerals to garner pigments that can be used for mark making by identifying, collecting, and processing the gifts from this earth. Working in this manner can offer alternative ways to not only create unique colors but traceable methods that are earth conscious and tap into higher frequencies for art making.
*Session one will be focused on creating and garnering pigments as a basis for paint making.
*Session two will be ink processes with various raw materials. We will then begin mark making with both paint and inks on a few types of papers.
All materials will be provided and you will go home with dry pigments, inks, and recipes for both processes as well as creating binders for paints. We will also be creating sample swatches and there will be opportunity to loosen up and paint a small piece on watercolor paper.
*There will be a half hour break during each session so please bring food and nourishment you might need. Tea and cookies will be provided.
* Please bring pen, notebook, towel, and baggie to bring home wet textiles. Wear something safe to get dirty.
*There is no refund for cancellations after registration closes nor will there be make up classes if you don't show up for scheduled workshop.
