Ritual Making – Hapa Zome
September 12 – 10am-3pm – R A W Textiles Studio – 8536 SE Stark, PDX
Registration closes September 11
The art of Hapa Zome is simply smashing the pigment out of fresh plants to create color and print. I will show you how to mix modifiers that will change the intensity and hue of everything you print.
We will make cotton and linen samples to get you warmed up and then we can create square pieces that are composed with the leaves and petals that Rio has collected and what group has brought in to share. That being said I encourage you to bring in cuttings of things you would like to try printing . This could be flowers, leaves, or grasses that you think may give a color. We will identify them and make a test sample. As a collective we will see the results and and share in this experience. For a final piece you will print on a cotton that can be made into a sachet.
I have invited Debby Accuardi , the maker of herbal apothecaries, Chicken Coop Botanicals, to share with you herbs that she grows on her farm. She will discuss the magical and healing properties of these plants. With this knowledge you can decide what you would like to fill in your sachet.
You will take home a sachet, several samples, and a packet of information about herbs.
All materials are included in class fee. Please note there are only 7 spaces so we can space out as appropriate. There will be a half hour break for lunch.
Deb will provide a special blend tea plus a healthy variety of nibbles will be available.
