たたき染め
The art of Tataki zome is simply hammer dyeing. We will be smashing the pigment out of fresh plants to create color and print. I will show you how to mix modifiers that will change the intensity and hue of everything you print.
We will make cotton and linen samples to get you warmed up and then create square pieces which will be composed with the leaves and petals that Rio has harvested and what group has brought in to share from their gardens. That being said I encourage you to bring in cuttings of things you would like to try printing . This could be fresh flowers, leaves, or grasses that you think may give a color. We will identify them and make a test sample. As a collective we will see the results and and share in this experience. For a final piece you will print on a cotton that can be made into a sachet.
Rio will focus on making with intention and how you can compose a magical piece to celebrate the harvest of this place and time.
I will be offering mugwort, rose, and lavender herbs to fill your potential sachet.
All materials are included in class fee
Space is limited to 7 guest
