This workshop is for all levels and can be applied to various art practices such as printing, painting, paper arts, encaustic, weaving ect…… You will gain a basic understanding of plant dyes that we will create from harvested plants. We will make concentrates to experiment with from plant sources and discuss the possibilities for printing by thickening into a paint or ink. We will also work with iron as a salt bath and rusted objects to print and change colors hues.
The materials are included in the class fee.
We will be creating silk and cotton samples of each colorful bath we create. There will be a panel of silk for each of you to create one larger piece or several experiments to start your process as well as watercolor paper.
There will be a one hour lunch break (at Cathedral park if weather permitting). I will provide fruits and veggies with dips as well as iced tea or hot tea if you prefer. Please bring food according to your needs.
Bring any iron objects that you would like to print with any extra fabric that you might want to dye.
